Summary:TheMaintenance Engineer is responsible for the general operation and maintenance of all building equipment and systems. General knowledge of installation and repair of all phases of refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems of the A V Bryan Courthouse in Alexandria, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)

· Quickly respond to hot/cold calls from clients or tenants

· Participate in preparing the building and its systems for significant weather changes from summer to winter

· Perform basic plumbing repairs such as leaky pipes or replacing flushometers

· Work with the Chief or Lead Engineer in gaining additional knowledge of the trades

· Work directly with the co-workers in accessing, addressing and solving challenegs as they arise.

Minimum Qualifications:(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

· High School Diploma/GED required and 4 years experience in the Operations and Maintenance field.

· Experience working in a Government facility

· Must have DC 3rdclass steam license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Desire to move up within the organization by demonstrating skill and drive in the tasks and assigned.

· Desire to learn, or ability to read blue print diagrams

· Ability to pass an extensive Background Check

· Ability to climb a 12 foot ladder and work from 20’ man lift.

· Ability to climb a 20’ “ships ladder”.

· Ability to read multidial meters and keep accurate records.

· Ability to use VOM meter and diagnos digital controller wiring, relays and sensors.

· Ability to lift 50 pounds

· Ability to perform daily work load with little or no supervision

· Knowledge of DDC systems to control space temperature in maintaining heating and cooling systems within the facililty.
