Summary:

Chenega Professional & Technical Services (CPTS) is seeking a Data Center Subject Matter Expert 4 to provide support to NASA - AMES Research Center (ARC) within the Information Technology Services. The Data Center Subject Matter Expert 4 will be responsible for the complex data center system complex scope of work to include design, validation and verification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)

  • Leads strategic planning and communication initiatives in Cloud.

  • Creates team structure for range support services and meets with regularly to discuss performance, propose initiatives, and establish priorities.

  • Lead innovation processes and manage innovative technical solutions of interest, including analyzing trends and market disruptions, searching for emerging new market opportunities, and setting up and running idea-generation platforms.

  • Make business cases for innovation projects.

  • Create and establish an innovation process, including change management aspects.

  • Manages team of Data Center Subject Matter Experts.

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of Data Center infrastructure.

  • Direct the planning, coordination, implementation and execution of approved policies, programs, and services related to Data Center services.

  • Serve as the IT technical project lead/task manager and assist with systems implementation.

  • Provide multiple project scheduling and technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to junior staff.

  • Develop and present system-level diagrams, briefings, and technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support management and customers in proposals, technical meetings, and milestone activities.

  • Review policy and procedure and ensure all IT systems and services remain in compliance with agency, policies, and guidelines.

  • Assist with execution of the disaster recovery plan when a business or IT operations disruption occurs.

  • Develop and maintain technical schedules and level of service estimates.

  • Work independently across multiple platforms and applications to understand dependencies.

  • Handle multiple tasks and projects.

  • Perform Data Center system requirements: system design, system validation, and system verification.

  • Evaluate complex requirements based on contracts, technical specifications, and customer briefings to define system requirements and develop organized actionable tasks.

  • Determine equipment, technology, and protocol suitability for system integration.

  • Define features, capabilities, and changes for future upgrades to data center.

  • Anticipate problems, develop and evaluate solutions and alternative approaches, anticipate events and incident management, conduct change management, and problem management tracking.

  • Validate systems documentation; documentation includes rack drawings, system interconnects, power tables, site-wide system installation plans, sparing plans, and operations manuals.

  • Validate and verify system-level connectivity for operations to include servers, management appliances, local area networking equipment, and wide area networking equipment.

  • Develop, execute, and update test plans in support of ad hoc test milestones; includes goals, architecture, environment, and validation of test procedures.

  • Respond to data center problems resulting from catastrophic events, incident response and power outages.

  • Develops innovative solutions in cloud and infrastructure technologies.

  • Research and development on emerging cloud, infrastructure, and virtualization technology, tools, and capabilities, including evaluating processes to improve speed, efficiency, and scalability of cloud(s).

  • Writes and maintains processes, procedures, test/assessment results, presentations, papers, articles, and other types of documents as required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Fifteen (15) or more years of experience with Two (2) of those years of experience as a Programmer, Developer or Analyst.

  • Must have knowledge of Data Center Management, including design, infrastructure (hardware, software, networking, and telecommunications), maintenance, and operations.

  • Must possess knowledge of Data Center space and power utilization, including understanding of heating/ventilation/air-conditioning (HVAC), power distribution, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), cable plant layout, environmental monitoring systems, and commissioning/decommissioning of devices and servers.

  • Requires Cisco Certified Network Associate Data Center.

  • Must be able to obtain required NASA badge.

  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).

  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
